Structure, function and regulation of disease-relevant renal transport proteins

P10

Project Summary

P10 will employ integrative structural biology approaches to study renal solute transport proteins with a role in genetic kidney diseases. Focusing on complexes of the linker protein NHERF-1 and its interaction partners NHE3, URAT1 and NaPi-IIa, P10 will combine biochemical and biophysical methods to characterize structure/function relationships of transport protein complexes that are deficient in genetic disorders of renal sodium, calcium and phosphate handling and the resulting kidney diseases such as nephrolithiasis and reduced kidney function. Additional kidney disease targets such as candidates resulting from complexome profiling will be included over the course of the initiative.
